We had the first meeting which officially kicked off the Didsbury Village Women's Institute on Tuesday (2/12/08) in Emmanuel Church parish hall.
We had a great chocolate tasting talk (and sampling) followed by some formal kick-off talk and tea and cake. After this, some members for this coming year's committee were chosen. There are some roles still up for grabs.
The meetings hope to be on the first Tuesday of every month but we need a new venue as the hall isn’t available then. As a one off, the next meeting is on a Thursday (8th January 09) - I'll let you know when the venue is decided.
Basically, we can make the Didsbury Village WI into almost whatever sort of group we hope for. We get out of it what we put in. Now we need to find some fresh members!
Please, please do add your own comments and greetings here so that we can grow our online community as much as our real life one.
Hi - great that the WI is opening in my area! I'd be interested in joining - can you give me an idea of what happens at the monthly meetings?
ReplyDeleteHi Vix,
ReplyDeleteThanks for getting in touch! The monthly meetings are by no means set in stone but we hope to use the meetings as a place to have fun, meet new friends in your own community, have some interesting talks and demonstrations, discuss public affairs we could get involved with, drink tea and eat cake (optional!).
We aim to be a forward thinking fresh group that portrays the modern values the WI stands for.
Do pop along to one of our meetings - on your own or bring a friend with you. Everyone's always more than welcome.
Sally
Hello
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea!
I attended the initial meeting in Oct and then this week's unusual and interesting talk about Chocolate (with just enough of a taste not to spoil any pre-Christmas diets).
Looking at the list of other speakers available to the area there doesn't seem to be any topic that isn't covered! Can't wait!
Its really exciting to be involved with a brand new WI but its good to have the back up of the Cheshire ladies if we need them.
See you 8th Jan ....
Liz
